A pair of murals were unveiled Monday in Jersey City, one to celebrate the city and its young artists, and another that makes you think about the ongoing plague of gun violence.
A group of 14- to 24-year-olds worked with professional artists this summer to create a 100-foot salute to Jersey City’s sister cities at Ferris High School. Among Jersey City’s 22 sister cities are Karpathos, Greece; Budapest, Hungary; Dublin, Ireland; Kolkata, India and San Juan, Puerto Rico.
On Communipaw Avenue, between Sackett Street and Bergen Avenue, international artist Kyle Holbrook unveiled his “Peace” mural, meant to inspire action against rising gun violence. The mural shows a hand with two fingers raised, forming a peace symbol.
