Overview of the 2014 Florida Art Therapy Association Conference:
The 2014 Florida Art Therapy Association Conference brought together art therapy specialists from across the country. Among the presenters were MLK Mural Project representatives, including Kyle Holbrook, Bonnie Schindler, and Edward Rawson. The conference focused on sharing ideas and presentations related to art therapy.
During the conference, the MLK Mural Project was invited to present, with Kyle Holbrook delivering a speech on utilizing visual art with different populations, particularly children with special needs. An interactive mural project involving Bahamas school children with special needs, middle and high school students, and teachers from the Bahamas public schools was conducted.
The collaborative mural was created with the guidance of Kyle Holbrook, Edward Rawson, and Bonnie Schindler. Over 45 special education teachers from around the country participated in the MLK Mural Project. The completed mural was later auctioned to raise funds for the Florida Art Therapy Association, which is part of the Miami-Dade Public Schools district in Florida, United States. The involvement of Bahamian students, special education teachers, and the auction demonstrated the project's commitment to inclusivity, community engagement, and support for art therapy initiatives.
